A member of the SACEA shall, in carrying out his/her profession:

  1. Display professional conduct through being a role model to the industry in the following areas:
    • Dealing with suppliers and service providers in an ethical way
    • Applying good engineering practice
    • Promoting change management principles
    • Encouraging continuous improvement
    • Displaying transparency in his/her leadership approach

  2. Encourage, promote, aid and affect the transfer of best practices amongst members to the benefit of the profession.

  3. Build synergistic rapport between companies regarding matters of common interest.

  4. Have due regard to safety, health, environment, risk management and social responsibility in the communities we operate.

  5. Execute his/her duties to his/her employer or client in an efficient and competent manner with high integrity.

  6. Uplift the professional status of the maintenance practitioner by raising the professional standards in the Coal Mining industry.

  7. Not maliciously or recklessly blemish, either directly or indirectly, the professional reputation, prospects or business of any other member or that of the Association.

  8. Abide by the following dress code (male members):
    • Council members shall wear the Association’s tie and a jacket at the Technical Symposium
    • All members shall wear the Association’s tie at the AGM
    • Council members shall wear the Association’s tie at all Council, Regional and User group meetings and the Safety Workshop
    • Any member attending a meeting or work group representing the Association shall wear the Association’s tie
    • All members and their spouses to comply with black tie/formal/traditional attire requirements at the annual Presidential function

  9. Abide by the following dress code (female members):
    • Council members shall wear the Association’s scarf, white top, black, grey or navy skirt and a jacket at the Technical Symposium
    • All members shall wear the Association’s scarf, white top, black, grey or navy skirt at the AGM
    • Council members shall wear the Association’s scarf, white top, black, grey or navy skirt at all Council, Regional and User group meetings and the Safety Workshop
    • Any member attending a meeting or work group representing the Association shall wear the Association’s scarf, white top, black, grey or navy skirt
    • All members and their spouses to comply with black tie/formal/traditional attire requirements at the annual Presidential function

  10. Must not undertake work under conditions or terms that would compromise their ability to carry out their responsibilities in accordance with acceptable professional standards.

  11. Must not engage in any act of dishonesty, corruption or bribery.

  12. Must avoid any perceived, real or potential conflict of interest.

  13. May not knowingly misrepresent, or permit misrepresentation of their own academic or professional qualifications or competency or those of any other person involved with work, nor knowingly exaggerate their own degree of responsibility for any work or that of any person.

  14. Must give engineering decisions, recommendations or opinions that are honest, objective and based on facts that are used in reaching recommendations or opinions given to clients or employers.

  15. May not, unless required by law or by these Rules, divulge any information of a confidential nature which they obtained in the exercise of their duties.

  16. Must notify Council immediately if they become aware of a violation of these Rules by any other Registered Person.

  17. Must when providing professional advice to a client or employer, and if such advice is not accepted, inform such client or employer of any consequences which may be detrimental to the public health, safety or interests and at the same time inform the Council of their action.

  18. All correspondence on behalf of SACEA or any of its work groups or sub work groups shall be done on the official SACEA letter head. All external correspondence shall be under signature of the President.


    • All persons acting on behalf of SACEA as an official representative of SACEA at any working committee or meeting may only give the position/view point of the Association for which he/she is mandated.
